Art Murtha, a former paramedic, was called into action when a neighbor brought his unconscious daughter to his front yard. The daughter had fallen in the tub and hit her head before going under the water. Murtha did a quick assessment and found that she wasn’t breathing, had no pulse, and her whole face was blue. He immediately started CPR.
The toddler was breathing and had a pulse by the time paramedics arrived to transport her to the hospital. Murtha said that he wanted his surprise life saving moment to be a lesson to others. “I expect anyone, even someone without the training, would have gone to her aid when he asked for help, but I just think the training is fantastic,” Murtha said. “I knew right off what I needed to do. I encourage everyone to get certified in CPR – mothers, fathers, cousins, nieces, nephews. You never know when it’s going to be needed.”
I second that and couldn’t have said it any better.
